The Development Front
Developing on the Niagara and Sedona Frameworks

developersTridium’s software Frameworks are used to develop device-to-enterprise applications, Internet-enabled products and automation system solutions.

As software Frameworks, Niagara and Sedona are universal, reusable software platforms designed to facilitate the development process by allowing developers and programmers to spend more time on meeting software requirements rather than dealing with the more tedious details of providing a working system. The Frameworks provide rapid and easy implementation that reduce project implementation requirements; lower up-front costs and minimized risks; faster time-to-value and market and greater end user acceptance.

One of the far-reaching goals of the Summit is to bring together the powerful resources available to developers -- such as development tools, collaboration and social-networking. Sessions in this track dive deep into the platforms, offering a technical up-close programmers look at the latest with the Niagara and Sedona Frameworks.

Sessions in this track will be geared to engineers and developers and are highly technical.

Session Topics Include:

Breakout Room: Veranda C

Introduction to Tridium’s Frameworks for Developers Niagara

Tridium is the provider of two Frameworks: Niagara and Sedona.  The Niagara and Sedona Frameworks are extremely robust, flexible, and expandable open-based development platforms which manufacturers and integrators can build products and applications with unparalleled reliability, security, operational integrity, flexibility, and bottom-line value.

NiagaraAX resolves the challenges associated with open systems, integration and interoperability by integrating diverse systems and devices - regardless of manufacturer, or communication protocol. Sedona is a complete software platform for developing, deploying, integrating, and managing pervasive device applications and distributes decision making control and connectivity to any device to the network edge and back.

This session provides an overview of both frameworks including the value proposition from a developer’s perspective.  It also provides a first look at the new features of the frameworks and a discussion of what will be coming in future releases.

Speakers:
John Sublett, Tridium
Dan Giorgis, Tridium

Monday, May 3, 2 pm, Veranda C

Developing on the Niagara Framework Niagara

This session takes an extensive look into the details of developing on the Niagara Framework.  Topics will include an overview of the Niagara architecture, extending Niagara with custom components and services, and driver development.

Speaker:
Scott Hoye, Tridium

Monday, May 3, 3 pm, Veranda C

Developing on the Sedona Framework Niagara

This session provides a foundation for understanding how to develop using the Sedona Framework. We’ll cover the Sedona architecture, and show you how to create your own Sedona components for deployment on Sedona devices.

Speaker:
Matthew Giannini, Tridium

Monday, May 3, 4 pm, Veranda C

Sedona Developer Stories Niagara

The Sedona Framework makes it simple to build products and applications with unparalleled reliability, operational integrity and flexibility. This session explores applications that have been developed on the Sedona Framework from development teams that have already done it.  This session provides a look at several Sedona-based products with discussion from the developers on their experience using Sedona.

Speakers:
Zane Brown, Pervasive Devices
Bennet Levine, Contemporary Controls
KM Yin, Infocon

Tuesday, May 4, 11 am, Veranda C

oBIX and the Niagara Framework Niagara

oBIX is an XML standard for modeling data and interfaces to control systems.  It is built into the Niagara Framework and is commonly used as a means of communicating with non-Niagara tools and systems. This session provides a brief overview of oBIX and its extensibility.  It will also provide a look at some applications that use oBIX with discussion from the developers on their experience.

Speakers:
Jason Briggs, J2 Innovative Concepts
Femi Aderounmu, Constellation Energy

Tuesday, May 4, 2 pm, Veranda C

Custom NPM Baseboard Development

Introduction to developing a custom baseboard for the Niagara Processor Module.

Speaker:
Dan Anderson, Tridium

Tuesday, May 3, 3 pm Veranda C

Niagara Appliance Development smart

Learn to apply the NiagaraAX Framework to accelerate the development of custom Niagara appliances.  A Niagara appliance is a special purpose application built on top of the general Niagara Framework.  Learn to create products that are easy to deploy and minimize the configuration steps for an integrator or end user.

Speaker:
Gareth Johnson, Tridium

Tuesday, May 4, 4 pm, Veranda C

Breakout Room: Veranda A/B

Creating User Interfaces for Niagara Applications Niagara

This session will provide an overview of Niagara user interface technology including desktop client application development using the workbench framework as well as thin web client using the hx API.

Speaker:
John Sublett, Tridium
Steve Michals, JCI

Tuesday, May 4, 11 am, Veranda A/B

Wireless - 6LoWPAN and Zwave infrastructure

This session provides an overview of 6LoWPAN Wireless technology – where it is now and where it is headed. Zwave will also be introduced.
